Mathematics Term 1

Whole numbers:  ordering, rounding off, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, multiples and factors and PRIME NUMBERS, profit, loss and discount.

Exponents:  squares and cubes to 12 and their roots.  Calculations involving +, -, x, ÷ using numbers in exponential and root form.

Geometry of straight lines:  line segment, ray straight line, parallel lines, perpendicular lines.

Construction of geometric figures:  accurately measure, angles, accurately construct angles and circles, parallel and perpendicular lines. (NB!!! Bring ruler, sharp pencil, eraser, compass and protractor  (no lending or borrowing)

Geometry of 2D figures:  properties of triangles and quadrilaterals (NB!!!!)  similarity and congruency, solve geometric problems involving unknown sides and angles.

Term 2

Common fractions and Decimal fractions:  order, compare, addition, subtraction, multiplication (division of decimals), equivalent forms:  decimal fractions / common fractions / percentages.

Functions and relationships:  tables / flow diagrams / rules

Area and perimeter of 2D shapes:  squares, rectangles, triangles – solving simple problems, converting between mm/cm/m/mm²/cm²/m²

Surface area and volume:  cubes, rectangular prisms, solve simple problems.
